Find the most frequently asked questions regarding our wireless IoT data logger series ECOLOG-PRO xG below.
For information on configuration, device operation and display icons please visit our ECOLOG-PRO xG data logger get-started section.
What communication network is ECOLOG-PRO xG using?
ECOLOG-PRO xG is using 4G Mobile IoT (LTE-M/NB-IoT) for communication. Mobile IoT is for transmitting low amounts of data (machine-to-machine) on long ranges with low power consumption. The protocols are standardized by 3GPP and currently rolled out globally. LIBERO G as well as ECOLOG-PRO xG talk both "languages" (protocols) LTE-M and NB-IoT. The devices are able to automatically switch between the two (e.g. in case of no connection).
What is LTE-M?
Long Term Evolution for Machines (LTE-M) is a low-power wide-area network radio communication technology standard which supports IoT through lower device complexity and provides extended coverage, while allowing the reuse of the LTE installed base (=4G). LTE-M facilitates an energy-efficient handshake between antennas and is therefore optimized for mobile applications.
What is NB-IoT?
Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is a low-power wide-area network radio communication technology standard developed to enable a wide range of new IoT devices and services. NB-IoT significantly improves the power consumption of user devices, system capacity and spectrum efficiency, especially in deep coverage. Ideal for utility metering. It uses widely available infrastructure, consumes very little energy, keeps device and deployment cost low, can reach deep within buildings and can support large numbers of units. NB-IoT is typically used for stationary applications.
Can I trigger a communication via elproCLOUD?
No, this is not possible. The communication protocol implemented for ECOLOG-PRO xG incorporates any communication triggered by the device. This future-proof implementation differentiates the ELPRO device from competitive devices and allows the runtime of more than one year.
100% calibrated sensor – where can I download the certificate?
For all internal temperature sensors, ELPRO is able to provide a 3-point manufacturer's calibration certificate covering the full measurement range.
All standard certificates can be downloaded via compliance.elpro.com
The ECOLOG-PRO xG battery life is stated as up to 14 months?
Started data logger runs up to 14 months with LiFe batteries (batteries are exchangeable).
A use below 0 °C and above +40 °C over a longer period of time and / or intensified communication behavior (e.g. bad connection) can shorten battery life.
The power management of ECOLOG-PRO xG has certain mechanisms (e.g. reduced communication interval for bad connection) to ensure the stated runtime.
Is coverage available for my country?
Consult the country list to check connectivity quality. In any case, we recommend performing a test on the planned installation location.
I have no coverage in my warehouse – what can I do?
Change the position of the device to increase the connection quality, e.g. by moving the device closer to a window.
Is it possible to set up an in-house network?
ECOLOG-PRO xG operates in the public cellular network (LTE-M and NB-IoT). This network allows high penetration and connection also within buildings. As ECOLOG-PRO xG operates in a licensed spectrum, ELPRO cannot provide indoor antennas e.g. by beacons.
As site owner and in order to answer questions about the site conditions, it is most efficient if the customer approaches the network provider self.
Please check whether the network is available in the respective country:
https://www.gsma.com/iot/deployment-map/#deployments
If network is available in your country, you can contact the national network provider in order to:
- check whether there are available antennas in the vicinity which can be upgraded to to LTE-M / NB-IoT
- model on the basis of the given conditions (e.g. second basement floor, masonry) whether reception is realistic when additional antennas are connected
- work out a proposal for an in-house supply system
Does ECOLOG-PRO xG also have position data that is displayed in elproCLOUD?
In order to optimize battery consumption and for the planned main use in stationary applications, ECOLOG-PRO xG do not show a map. If customers want to use ECOLOG PRO xG in transport, it is required to replace the device annually.
Do additional fees apply for global roaming?
No, global roaming is included for the countries according to our country list.
What can I do if my ECOLOG-PRO xG does not react?
Press both buttons for 10 seconds to perform a (soft) reset. The device will not loose data and will return to the previous state.
What happens to the data after transmission?
ECOLOG-PRO xG has a memory to buffer at least 31’000 measurement values (equals 215 days at a 10-minute measurement interval) and works in loop mode (if the memory is full, the first value will be overwritten).
Can I delete an ECOLOG-PRO xG?
Yes. In case you do not need to keep the measurement values, it is possible to delete an ECOLOG-PRO xG. Please be aware that your data and license is lost, if you delete the sensor in your elproCLOUD account. Deleting is protected by asking you to enter your password.
How to clean the logger?
We recommend using a standard disinfectant.
How can I replace the batteries?
Simply open the battery compartment on the back by hand and remove the old batteries and insert the new ones.
The device asks whether new batteries have been inserted, select “Yes” or “No” to confirm the new battery query. The display will show the following: NEW.BAT: Y/N. Toggle between Y and N by pressing the Info/Menu button shortly. Confirm by pressing the Info/Menu button for more than 2 seconds.
